Tobacco Products Directive (TPD)

The good news:

You do not need to worry about the TPD when purchasing e liquid concentrates from VRU. Only after it is made into e liquid (the nicotine is added) does it become subject to any of the below. Any questions? Let us know.

That being said: The TPD (Tobacco Products Directive) was adopted by the European Parliament on 3rd April 2014.

The TPD is now underway, and including article 20 it has some consequences for the way e cigs are sold.

In the UK, it is the department of health which are responsible for the implementation of these new regulations.
The TPD is required to come into force from the 20th of May, even though some of the details still need ironing out. The department of health have said these details will be resolved in time.

The main points of the TPD are:

E-cigs can be sold as medical products, in which case they are not subject to the limitations imposed by the TPD.

Ecigs & E Liquid not sold under the medical products category will be classed as tobacco, and as such will be answerable to the TPD regulations.(This is basically everybody)

Product info must be sent to the Department of Health 6 months before going on sale. Products on the market have 6 months to submit their info.

The approval process is complex, and will require substantial testing and technical work, for every single product.

E-liquid to be sold in pre-filled cartridges containing 2ml or less, or a standalone container with 10ml or less.

20mg is now the maximum strength

Ingredient standards have been raised (this does not affect people like VRU who already use high quality products)

Products must deliver a consistent Nicotine supply.

All E-cigs and containers must be child and tamper proof, protected against breakage and leakage, and when refillable there must be a mechanism that ensures leak free refilling.

Information leaflets are to be included with all e-cigarette and e-liquid products.

Promotion and advertising of e-cigarettes is changing and advertising them in the public media space gets complicated.

The bad news:

The way we sell Nicotine after May 2017 will change!

Will I still be able to purchase Nicotine from Vapours-R-Us?

Yes. It will still be possible to purchase nicotine, although the quantities in which you can do will be restricted. The Nicotine we sell currently that is under 500ML will not be sold in the same way. We currently plan on selling Nicotine shots to customers who are wanting any small quantity of Nicotine. We are working very closely as a team to ensure that customers will not notice a huge, if at all any difference in Nicotine sales when May 2017 arrives.

Why do you have to make Nicotine Shots?

This method will be the easiest, cheapest and most efficient way we are going to be able to get Nicotine to our customers that are not willing to spend big money on anything over 500ML. We value our customers that have been with us over the years, and will do anything to continue this service even when new laws are introduced. It will still be the same Nicotine we have always sold.

So what can I do before May 2017?

The Only thing we can suggest, as there is going to be no way around the TPD Laws, is to stock up on Nicotine. Freeze as much as you can before May to make sure you don't have to worry about any of this for quite a while.
